BONNIE BRAMLETT PRESS RELEASE
December 27, 2004

Joachim Becker, owner of Westchester County, NY-based jazz label ZOHO Music, is pleased to announce the recent signing of legendary singer BONNIE BRAMLETT to the label.

Her CD project for ZOHO is titled "Pennies from Heaven", and will showcase Bonnie in a selection of jazz standards out of the Great American Songbook, in swinging small group arrangements featuring Bonnie's current Nashville-based backing Band, Mr Groove.

"In the early days of my career," Bonnie Bramlett explains, "when I was 18 years old, I did a gig in Milwaukee with the Cannonball Adderley Quintet, and his brother Nat. At the time, Joe Zawinul was with the band. He saw great potential in me as a jazz singer, and immediately wrote some charts for me, including "Lady is a Tramp" in a 6/8 tempo."

Prior to her return to jazz with her new ZOHO release, Bonnie Bramlett lived what must easily qualify as one of the most exciting and colorful careers in popular music in the last decades. Following her early associations with Blues stars Little Milton, Albert King and Tina Turner   (she was the first white singer/member of the "Ikettes" ever), Bonnie founded "Delaney and Bonnie" with her husband Delaney Bramlett, in 1968.

The group recorded, prior to its disbanding in 1972, a string of six groundbreaking albums, all propelled by Bonnie's uniquely powerful singing.   These releases mixed blues, country, rock and soul music influences into a unique and greatly influential Southern Rock style which became highly popular in the 1970's. An incredible variety of musicians guested in their band, including Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Duane Allman, Dave Mason, Rita Coolidge and Leon Russell. The Bramletts also participated in John Lennon's Plastic Ono Band adventures to benefit UNICEF, a European tour, and on Clapton's first solo album.

After the group's break-up in 1972, Bonnie released two spectacularly gritty and dynamic albums on the prestigious Capricorn label, converted to   Born-Again Christianity, toured with Stephen Stills and Little Feat, recorded with the Allman Brothers Band and Delbert McClinton, composed for Hank Williams, Jr., and starred on the television sitcom, Roseanne .

On February 8, 2004, American Idol winner Ruben Studdard was nominated for a Grammy for his version of one of Bonnie's best known songs, Superstar , co-written with Leon Russell, after the song's   version by the Carpenters scored a Billboard # 1 spot in 1971. -

Recording of Bonnie's new ZOHO release has started in Nashville, TN. The release will be produced by Tim Smith, and feature her current backing band "Mr Groove" - a group of experienced Nashville session musicians. Founded in the early 1990's in Nashville by brothers Tim and Roddy Smith, the individual group members' sideman stints include Bill Evans, Joe Sample, Ronnie Laws and Boots Randolph. Joining Tim Smith on bass and Roddy Smith on guitar will be Tim Gordon on saxes, Donnie Marshall on drums, and Steve Willets on piano. Long time collaborator Mark Stallings will be playing Hammond organ on the project, and several featured guests are being scheduled to make an appearance.

Studio work on Bonnie's new ZOHO release is expected to be completed by February 1, 2005, and projected street date with ZOHO's distributor Allegro Corporation, Portland, OR, is July 5, 2005. "Given Bonnie's unique musical and personal history, we are expecting significant consumer, retailer, media and radio interest in this release : the tastes of many of Bonnie's fans from the 1970's have migrated from Rock to Jazz, as have Bonnie's", comments Joachim Becker from ZOHO. "Her incredible voice is more expressive than ever, her jazz singing is unforgettable."

Bonnie Bramlett's next major live appearance with Mr Groove will be at the Cocoa Beach Jazz Festival, in Cocoa Beach, FL, on January 14, 2005.

ZOHO is distributed by Allegro Corporation, Portland, OR.
